Wanting to be Retro

Life is grand at the moment. Australia and I have entered into a long-term relationship, new visa as proof, and are working towards a brighter tomorrow. Everything is set for me to attend AWARD school and once classes begin, dear readers, I will snitch on everything I learn. Yet before all of this begins, I need to figure out how to solve my latest creative dilemma: wanting to be retro.

That’s right, I want to be retro, frayed around the edges, lovingly remembered and brought forth as a commentary on the transience of new media. I want to be multiple fonts and consistent. Round but square. Frayed but new. Packaged and individualistic. Dignified and brightly colored. The only obstacle, me and my design skills.

First, let’s grasp that I am gal-painting-flowers-outside-the-park-to-spell-your-name crazy about retro logos. From the sporadic and diverse font choices, simple designs and plain packaging witticisms, I’m enamored with it all. And my grand idea is to have a steampunk retro logo for myself. So far I have this retro template.

Retro Logo Template

But alas my Photoshop skills are not able to help me get the logo I yearn for and don’t get me started about Illustrator. I swear I will one day grasp the logic of Illustrator but until that day I am a die-hard anarchist.

Still, there is light at the end of my Photoshop tunnel. And this light is graphicriver.net. A place where you can cheaply purchase vectors, logos, website designs and adapt them to fit your needs. Heck, some of the templates even have free vectors and logos for you to try to work out. You are looking at one in this post.  And all is grand until I discovered a flaw, me. I still lack the skills to translate the template to my needs.

This then leads me to two possible solutions. The first that I enter a quid pro quo relationship with a design person. I write you a wonderful bio filled with intrigue drama and hope while you  help me get my logo to look pretty. The second, find a leprechaun and make him lead me to his pot of gold, spend gold on becoming a tech wiz and do my own logo. I’m open to either option.
